Experience the joy of English country dancing from the “Playford” dances of the 17th and 18th century to the village dances collected during the 20th century as well as may inventive, contemporary dances in the English style. Dances feature live music in a hall with a large wooden floor, climate control and ample on-street parking. All dances are taught and called by our friendly, experienced callers.

Regular dancing is held every Thursday night at 8-10 pm. Door opens at 7:30 pm at Church of Ascension and Holy Trinity (address below). Beginners are always welcome, and no partner is necessary.

English Country: Easy to Learn, Fun to Dance!

Unlike most historic dances, the primary goal of English Country Dancing has always been to have fun. A simple walking or skipping step will get you through most of the dances. Much of the time you don’t even need to know your right foot from your left!

No matter how complicated a dance may be, you won’t have to remember it yourself. Every dance is led by a caller who will let you know what comes next.

Like many English Country Dance groups, we change partners frequently between dances. So even if you attend by yourself, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to dance throughout the evening. Many of the dances also make intricate patterns that are enjoyable to watch.

Weekly Dancing

Regular dances are held every Thursday from 8 to 10 pm. Doors open at 7:30 pm. Beginners are always welcome and no partner is necessary. Admission: Members $5, non-members $7.

Light refreshments are sometimes served at the break when provided by volunteers.

What to Wear

We encourage you to dress casually in comfortable clothes that allow good freedom of movement. Please wear soft-soled shoes that won’t mark or scratch the wooden floor.

And while some of us like to dress up in historic costumes for special dances, that’s completely optional.

We’re fortunate to have several local groups of dedicated musicians who provide live music at our regular dances. Be sure to thank them when you attend!

Touring musicians and dance callers from across the U.S. and Canada also make occasional stops in Cincinnati on one of our weekly dance nights. We charge a little extra on these special evenings, but we also dance later so we can enjoy these talented players as long as possible!
